THOUGHT BEFORE BEDTIME

1. Meritocracies are deeply flawed and do not work. They do allow the haves to feel better as they step over the have nots.

2. If one is going to leave comments have the courage to leave your name. I have left the option for anonymous comments but rather hoped all commentators would have the integrity to not comment anonymously.

Colin,
I comment anonymously because I am such a computer newbie that I don't know what those options (Open ID, Name/URL, etc) are. I think I know what Google Mail is, but I don't like signing up for everything willy-nilly. I know, pathetic beyond belief, but there you are.

I have noted that people generally only comment anonymously if they have something mean to say. Makes me wonder if they would say the same thing to your face. I try never to post anything I wouldn't be willing to say in public, with witnesses, directly to the person I'm addressing, but I don't think that is a universal approach to online communication.

Just to be clear, this is Suzanne!

I think the anonymous comment about health care doesn't understand that we now have Whooping cough in our public schools in Kentucky and children who have been vaccinated are getting it and dying from it. The disease requires a 95% vaccination rate to not appear. We have too many "working poor" who work full time but do not get insurance from their employers, do not qualify for Medicaid and cannot afford to buy insurance. So children of the "haves" are dying too. I want to know how "Anonymous" would feel if his/her child died of whooping cough because we do not have universal health care. even though he/she has health insurance.

I agree with you 100%, Colin.

To Sabine, If you click the Name/URL button, you will see you can leave your name only - the URL (webpage address) is optional - you can leave it blank.

For that matter, you could even make yourself a pseudonym (fake name) to use for comments. As for me, I totally ignore anonymous comments, generally. I read this one because I was curious, in light of this particular post.
