Deception

Ali The Artist Wrote:

Colin - I'm honestly not at all sure how to respond to your post. Will you listen if I dispute with you? Or would you be happier to condemn me as a hypocrite, a liar and a coward and have the last word? It is your blog after all! :-)

I don't need to. You condemn yourself.

I suggest those interested go and look at Ali's site and click on the 'are you good enough' link and see just what evil she has been driven to believe.

I feel sad for you Ali, truly. Not hatred but sadness that you could hold such hatred in your heart and kid yourself into thinking it is love.

I know from experience that discussion with people with your mindset is fruitless.

I can only pray that you do not have access to children with this wickedness.

I CANNOT IMAGINE BEING AT PEACE IN HEAVEN KNOWING THAT OTHER PEOPLE WERE SUFFERING FOR ALL ETERNITY. HOW COULD I POSSIBLY BE AT PEACE KNOWING THAT? I COULDN'T REST IF IT WERE JUST STRANGERS TO ME, SO IMAGINE HOW MUCH WORSE IT WOULD BE IF THEY WERE PEOPLE I LOVED? I WOULD NOT BE AT PEACE EVEN IF IT WERE THOSE WHO CAUSED ME SUCH SUFFERING AS I GREW UP. NO. I CANNOT ACCEPT THIS AND KNOW IN MY HEART IT IS A LIE THAT OTHERS TEACH FOR THEIR OWN ENDS.

"Jesus said to love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength-- "
Yes, he said this.

"so much, that your love for your parents, brothers and sisters, friends, and even your own life is like hatred compared to your love and devotion for God."
Nope. This is an interpretation, something Ali says we can't do.

No one, not ever her, will pass her test.

It is just amazing that Christians, expecially those who brag about it, who are supposed to follow the life and teachings of Jeasus, find most of their inspriation in the most hateful books of the old testament.

To be honest, Colin, I've never in my life been met with such vitriol. I'm a bit at a loss how to respond to you. I don't hold out much hope of being heard.
It seems clear from your extreme anger that you've had some pretty bad experiences with so-called Christians in the past. I'm genuinely sorry for that. There are Christians and there are people who call themselves Christians. Either way, we're *all* sinners, not one of us is perfect.
I don't think it does you much credit to insult, accuse and simply shout people down - it doesn't make you any better than the people you accuse of bigotry, who cannot and will not listen to another point of view.
I'll leave it there for just now. TTFN.

Oh I meant to say...
You said: I know from experience that discussion with people with your mindset is fruitless.
If "fruitful" means you could shake my faith, then you're right - discussion with you wouldn't.
If it means you could come to some kind of understanding of where I'm coming from, then I disagree that that would be fruitless.

I'm not sure Ali the Artist can see that where YOU are coming from, Colin. Again, no mention was made of that fact. Why do you (or I, or we) need to understand where Ali the Artist is coming from because the street is one way.

I don't think I will ever understand how people who purport to believe in a God who tells them not to judge others believe they have the right to interpret His words and thereby condemn others. I will also never understand how they believe that by telling others how "evil" they believe are, they are helping them. Seems to me none of them ever read the parable about casting stones. Such harsh judgments from people to claim they follow the man who was all about inclusion. Jesus really was a radical in his day, accepting all comers into his fold, rejecting none for their sex, poverty, or sexual orientation---all were welcome. Somehow, those who say they follow his path have come to believe they know better than he did who is acceptable to their God.

I often wonder, were Jesus to walk among us today, would he even recognize some of these people as His followers?

That test just made me laugh. My husband is Jewish. He says Jews don't believe in hell. I'm not Jewish (or Christian), but that seems like reason enough to me to choose Judaism, if I had to choose. I don't believe in hell either. I think we create enough or our own hell here on earth without needing God to do it for us after death.

The whole deal with understanding the basis for Xianity is that NONE of us would pass that test, because NONE of us is perfect because in some way we have ALL fallen short. (Firm grasp of the obvious, eh?) Anyway, the test thingie is supposed to illustrate the need for the loving sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. But then it just goes too freakin far - "A lot of nice people are going to hell" stated by evangelist and former U.S. Presidential candidate Pat Robertson. That offensive comment was just one of many that took me in another direction spiritually, but still xian, because in the end, for me (and I stress FOR ME) it is the best expression of God's enormous love for us.
OK, I'll get off the pulpit now (it's painful all that swinging around from pew to pew....)

I once took my children to an Easter service (persuaded by an ex-'friend' who would not pass Ali's test, but would, like her, promote such a test)where a young man told them, at the ages of 5 and 3, that they had an evil worm inside them, just like a bad apple (cartoon of Adam and Eve showing behind him,)and that that worm was sin. I fairly ran them out of there and will spend the rest of my life telling them how PERFECT they are.
