Before and After

Me at 21 stone (294lbs or 134 kg) and 45.
Me at 13 stone ( 182 lbs or 83 kgs) aged 49.

I also do not smoke now. Hand knitting, especially socks because they are easily portable has been my life saver. On the phone? I pick up my sock. Feeling peckish? I pick up my sock. In pain? I pick up my sock. In fact I don't often put it down. Even when I drive, I often think to myself, I need to stop for a knit.....well it beats smoking and eating.

(Of course the socks only help me stay on plan-it was years of therapy and self improvement and determination that really got me here.)

That is a great reason for everyone to knit and get healthy. You look terrific! I keep trying to figure out how to knit socks while I run, but those sharp double-points keep getting in my way:)

Well, methinks you're a nice looking fella either way, but what makes the "after" photo so much nicer, even more than the weight loss, is how HAPPY you look. It's not just pride in the weight loss, either. You are sparkling. That's so good to see, after everything you have lived through. A person's spirit can't be caged. Quod erat demonstrandum. Keep on keepin' on!

And I know what you mean about reaching for knitting instead of food. I try...and I want to be more like you when I grow up. ;-)

What a great idea - to carry a sock with you when driving. I've never done that because I thought, "Why bother? One never knows when one will have a few minutes to knit, though.

Hey, great reason. Same one I use to keep my hands busy rather than smoking. I gained weight and can't seem to shed it. I haven't taken up swimming though. You look great.

Colin, you look fabulouw! I started really knitting when I quit smoking too. Quitting might have been impossible otherwise. Now, I need to lose some weight, and am wondering if knitting will help. Somehow, I fear it is be a lot easier to knit and eat than to knit and smoke.

Colin, you look FABULOUS!!! Congratulations! I've got to figure out how to knit and ride my bicycle at the same time now, and I think I'll be set.

Seriously--I'm so proud of you! Denise (mrsjkoster)

You look great! To quit smoking and lose weight at the same time - way to go. I like to have a pair of socks at the ready when I am in the car by myself - especially when traffic is bad. Even if I don't have a chance to pick them up - for some reason it makes me feel less anxious. Weird.

Wow, what a change, look at that big smile on the lighter you from the present :-)

I did not believe when you first told me how much you have lost on weight, but hte past picture shows me how you have looked.
Beyond 30 it is not so easy to lose weight any more since the metabolism changes, so pat yourself gently on the shoulder for what you have achieved.
It is a big deal and needs lots of discipline and determination, and you have both of it.

Congratulations! You are an inspiration. I've heard knitting, weaving, spinning and so referred to as the "high fiber" diet. You're a perfect example. Thank you for sharing your before and afters. I'm going to remember the reaching for the knitting part.

The second photo shows all kinds of "weight" lifted....the genuine smile/expression on your face speaks volumes.

Kudos to you for the courage to make those changes (and continuing down that same path.) You're an inspiration Colin!
