I dont think that they have released whether or not the shooter was actually a member of the tea party or not. He might be part of a communistic party as far as anyone knows. He was obviously off his rocker and I think it is unfair to say that all tea party members are out to shoot the opposition. I am not a tea party member but I do agree with them that there are too many government officials making too many rules and it doesnt make anything better for the average American. All politicians in my estimation are in it for the money and power. Sorry but there are more things in life than that. I just pray for the family members and those shot by this maniac. Violence doesnt solve anything.
Denise-I think the point is that Palin uses violent rhetoric NOT that this guy is saying he is a Tea Partier.I also think that America is very insular and has no idea how extreme outsiders find your Right Wing and are baffled as to how an ignorant rabble rouser like Palin manages to hold so many supporters. It is shameful.
I think it was only a matter of time before some early stage schizophrenic picked up on Palin's rhetoric and do just what that very sick young man did yesterday. And she will never take any responsibility for it.
The rhetoric has been hateful (and growing more so) for the past couple of decades. It's gotten to the point that I scarcely recognize this country as the place where I grew up. Both sides of the spectrum are guilty of name-calling and negative attitudes, but it feels as though the extreme right wing is guilty of more violence laden language.
It is overly simplistic to blame just the Tea Party. We have an economy that is decimating our middle class. We have a media that deals in sensationalistic sound bites with very low information or critical analysis. We have only two viable political parties who seem to prefer fighting with each other to doing what needs to be done to help our citizens. And we have an electorate that makes decisions based on TV talking points and a lack of real information or they stay home and do not vote at all. And even these points are simplifications of even deeper problems.
Most of us, I believe, are not to the extreme on either side. But that is not good video for the 6:00 news broadcast. There is a lot of anger here over a great many things and that is serving to give fuel to the wackos. The bottom line for me is that violent language is irresponsible no matter whose mouth it is coming out of and public figures especially need to be very careful about what they say and how they say it.
