Socks , Pups, Plants and Friends.

Okay, I think this colourway is odd. It is Opal 625. From the ball band, it would seem that socks can also be knit sideways. There are instructions for this but in German so...
Being concerned I would not get a man sized pair, I ended up having loads left over! Anyhow, I used 2mm for the cuff, and 2.25mm for the rest. I knit 22 rows in 2x2 rib, then 50 rws st st, then did the heel, then knit 100 rws for the foot, including the decrease rows.

This is the Sherman Heel. My own adaptation of it anyway. I think it is neat.
Luna and her 5 pups born lst night between 10pm and midnight. 2 boys and 3 girls. Her first litter. Micah is the father (Shameless' dad)
Shameless at 18 weeks. Still hates the camera being pointed at her.
This Amaryllis was given to us by Leive. It has had nothing done to it at all. Just sits on the window sill. This is it's third and best flowering. It went from nothing to this in 2 weeks. It has 4 heads this time.
Dawn-50 something. I have known Dawn 20 years. We hated each other on sight. After about 6 years we became very good friends. She really was there for me when the shit hit the fan and my other 'friends' disappeared. Dawn is President of the Manor Park Spiritualist Church (SNU). Moon has gone to live with Dawn and Ron.
Ron, 60 something, Dawn's husband. Has a droll sense of humour. Needs it living with Dawn.....

Hi Colin,

I used this yarn as well (for the Jaywalker Pattern) and I am
dissatisfied as well. The repeat is far too long, the yarn looks
promising whend wound in a ball, but not after knitting, and I just
managed to make the socks fitting for me - with some tricks.

Think I've got the sideways pattern somewhere in English if you want a copy... never tried it myself.

This yarn is from the Hundertwasser series. Hundertwasser was a famous painter in Austria and they took a few paintings and took the colors in them to make thin into yarn for socks. It's a neat idea. I have resently got one ball of those as a gift. I'm Austrian living in Canada, so I think this is great. You can find a link about Hundertwasser and his paintings on my blog or just google Friedensreich Hundertwasser. His paintings are amazing and colorfull! Love the pups!

Those are some seriously cool socks and the puppies are so cute. They just look like they want to be cuddled.

I love the socks! Maybe they'll grow on you. :-) The sideways sock pattern can be found in English on the US distributors site at http://www.ptyarn.com/sidewaysopal.html. It was translated for them by the Opal company.

The pups are beautiful! I can't wait to see what they look like when they're a little older.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Hi Colin,
Congratulations to all on the newborns.
The socks turned out nicely. I've made the sideways sock that's on
the ball band, they look nice, but they don't fit me as well as ones
knit in the round.
Anyway, here's an online translation of the sock pattern:

Congratulations on the pups? All are doing well, I hope? I love your socks, and especially the heel.

Interesting socks. The yarn would probably also make nice small scale items like baby things.

Congrats on the new pups!

You're right. The heel looks super, but the colorway
is, uh, too unusual for me.

I'd agree. But then Turquoise is always odd... ;-)

Pups are cuties!

Hi Colin,

Love the socks, funny how the colorway changed midway up. Both socks
matched up till then, I had a pair do that from Fortissima once too.
It's like they changed their minds while they were dying it, but they
look great and I like the "bit weird" colorways. Are you machine
knitting those or hand knitting them?

The pups are soo cute and I love the names you come with. Luna,
that's one of my favorite words, that and Loco, I like L words I
suppose :)

I like the colourway but I am a HUGE fan of Opal yarn. As for the sideways socks, I have tried them, the pattern translation is off a little bit and therefore could be very confusing to a novice. The other problem is that, unlike traditionally knit socks, there is no way lengthen the foot or leg once you have committed to the knitting sooo..I will stick to round and round, which I like a lot. Adorable pups, by the way.
