I dyed my first sock yarn. This 80% Merino and 20% Bamboo. I dissolved 4 different Kool Aids in little pots with hot water. I had already laid the hank of yarn out on the cling film. I took a 10ml syringe and I squirted till I was done. I then wrapped it up and nuked it for 4mins. I turned it over and nuked it again for 2 mins.When I unwrapped it there was nothing but some clean water. I washed it in Fairy and then spun it. Dried it on the radiator. Nothing came out in the wash. The look is what I had in mind. Now lets see what it looks like knitted.

It's very pretty. The resultant socks should be winners. Pups are adorable too, of course.
Every now and then I go on a dyeing binge, The loo looks like an Arab bazzar with hanks dangling from the shower rail. I spent $40 US on koolaid when we went to Connecticut!!! There is a huge variety of flavours/colours unavaiable to us in Canada.

Colin, your posts can make me laugh or cry ... I nearly did both when I read today's title. The sock yarn looks very pretty (surely some boots to go with?) and I'm looking forward to seeing it knitted up. The pups are of course adorable; will you keep any?

Yours turned out really well! My first attempt at Kool-Aid dyeing resulted in lots and lots of dull pink yarn.
Fabulous job on the dyeing :) Love it. All the playing I've done, and it never occurred to me to leave so much white - I LOVE LOVE LOVE that speckled look you achieved. Can hardly wait to see it knit up.

Great results, Colin! Also can't wait till it's knitted up. It reminds me a little of an Opal yarn I had. I have a stash of KA waiting to my first yarn dye but it will have to wait awhile as I'm having knee replacement in a week. It was so nice to see your yarn. I love the puppies too!

Oooooooohhh,PRETTY!! It's beautiful, Colin. Can't wait to see the socks you knit from it. FYI, there is a kool aid dying forum on Ravelry, with lots of interesting information. (I assume it's also helpful information, but since I've yet to actually try dying yarn, I can't vouch for that...)

I too use kool aid to dye yarn. As a previous poster said, we don't get very many color choices here in Canada though. I've always soaked my yarn in a vinegar/water solution, I take it that it's unnecessary? I've also not been able to achieve the speckled look but I will someday...ciao
