Stash

This part of my stash. The rest is in a full attic and a full walk in under the stairs.

I think I went a bit over the top. Maybe I'll live, fully functional, for 150 years more and I might get thru my stash. I really must stop visiting yarn shops and internet yarn sellers and Ebay!
Even with my stash, I often don't have quite the right thickness, or colour, or compositon. I think that is a legimate reason, don't you? After all I AM an artist!

I also have 15 knitting machines, about 100 pairs of Addi Turbo's, about 6 Rosewood circs and Bamboo circs too, I don't know how many. Oh, and a box full somewhere of metal, plastic and bamboo str8's.

I can't join yet another 12 step group and I am sure there isn't one for this so there! Mind your own business!

I keep telling John we need an extension. He isn't impressed. I remind him we need room for HIS stuff. You should see the amount of books he has.....elsewhere for now as we don't have room for them. He writes and is an historian and book collector(alongside his real job) so I think he should consider an extension or a biggger house. He keeps saying he'll build a separate building in the garden and move me, my dogs and yarn out here. He doesn't mean it, he loves me really.

Whoa, Dude. (Say that with a California accent) You've got a STASH. I'm impressed. And, really, if you feel overwhelmed by it all, I'm sure we could all help you out ... you know, take some of it off of your hands. It would go to a good home, promise...My stash would be really nice to it. Really.

Thankyou. My stash suddenly looks so much more manageable! I find cones much more difficult to store than anything else though - skeins and balls of yarn are so much more squashable....

This stash is incredible! I love it and I am very jealous. During this year my stash has come out of the closet. I was feeling very overwhelmed by this. My stash has been hidden for plenty nine years and only I got to see it. Now I decided I might use it faster if I get to look at it every day. I took over the guest room with my stash. Now if I have a guest they come out in the morning and make very strange comments about all that yarn.....and I ignore it all. Happy Stash to you!!!!

Colin,

What can I say - Wow that is sure a lot of yarn! My hubby will never complain again after I show him these photos as he thinks I've gone nuts with yarn! I honestly hope you do live another 150 years to use it all up and turn out many more of your wonderful sweaters we enjoy so much.

Hi Colin
You asked about my felted slippers.
You make a template, imagine two bootee shapes joined together at their open, ankle, ends. I use visquene (sp?) You then lay out lots of layers of wool tops , wetting and turning in as you go and then felt till the template is held really tight by the shrinking fibres. Then cut the wool around the midline before shrinking further. I have lasts in most child/adult sizes (with a template for each pair) so then I slip each slipper onto a last and further felt it down in size till it fits. They then have an extra sole added either in felt or suede. They can be cut low as ballet type slippers or higher like a boot . They look lovely in natural colours too.

p.s. what is the "done thing" on blogs, do I answer your question on my blog or yours? ;-)

Well, I think I top you on "stuff" I even have an outside storage rental just for my yarns, I own probably 1000 cd's (mostly classical music and opera) about the same number of books , knitting, quilting and mysteries, just 2 knitting machines, and 4 sewing machines, 1 quilting frame and several boxes of quilting fabrics.
The difference and where you have me beat is that you DO fantastic stuff with your yarns, and I dream a lot.
Keep up the good work.

I don't have as much of a yarn stash, but my knitting needle stash is going up and up because I am quite particular in what I knit with.

Now that you've discovered the HiyaHiyas, how will your collection grow?

I know mine is getting there!

Hi Colin, now I found the pictures of your stash, and I am impressed. It will be heaven, should I once happen to be able to visit you :-)

It was a really nice knit-meeting with you and the others, and I hope you enjoyed your stay and the 'Handarbeitsladen' you went to has been a paradise for you.
