I knitted these on a KnitPicks 2.25mm circular. I used the balls out of my odd ball bag. The bits left over from previous socks. I did not choose any, I just put my hand into my ball bag and used whatever came out. I rather like them. The foot is a little longer than I would normally have knit but this is due to the many different colours and yarns altering the row gauge. It took quite a bit of finishing too, with all the ends to sew in. Maybe I will knit them in on the next one but I am concerned it won't hold well and come loose in the wearing.

What fun socks Colin. How did you ever manage to knit them without that tiny hole where you turn for the heel? I admire anyone with the ability to just reach blindly into the left over bag without trying to force the choice of the next color.

As someone who is "known" for her socks (bought-not knitted-my dear old granny used to tell me that I sewed with hot thread, and I could never manage to knit even a scarf!), I salute you!
Colin! I love your oddball socks! I could just sit and stare at the pic for hours admiring all the colors. For just randomly grabbing out of the bag, the colors sit well together.
Beautiful socks! I love doing socks with leftover bits of yarn. The different colors and patterns all coming together in one sock are such fun.
I am totally loving the oddball socks! I've been dutifully saving all my leftover bits of sock yarn to create my own "Frankensocks" like these. :-)

I've been knitting "monstersocken" knee-highs from odd balls for a couple of years. He likes them for snowboarding...he's just 20. Says the girls love 'em! I choose my colors about the same way. I knit the new color in five stitches and then a small bit of weaving in as I go. The first one I knit, I waited to the end to do the weaving in, and I hated it! Never again! (As for the small hole, Anonymous, if you pick up the "granny stitch" of the right needle and knit it with the first stitch of the left needle, you will NEVER have a hole. Try it, you'll like the result.
Colin, those are beautiful! and I love reading your posts about the elections here in the States - so many of us feel the same way. If only the same-sex marriage ban hadn't passed here in California I could truly celebrate from the bottom of my heart.

Colin, I've done odd-ball socks, too, and found that the Russian join became my best friend. Kept a darning needle stuck in the fabric below where I was working, and took one minute to join yarns at each change. Clipped off the ends before proceeding. The joins have stood up very well to machine washing.

I've been thinking of doing something similar with all my leftover sock yarn for ages but I don't know if mine could look as neat as this, such neat stitches! I love those socks!! They look like they were well planned and the colors go together so nicely. You give me the courage to consider trying something like that. What about the second sock? Did you divide your leftover yarn in halves? Also I wanted to say I feel the same about Obama. The long Bush nightmare is almost over. It's like a weight lifting off our shoulders.
